  • WHAT IS C.S.A?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. This a locally-based way of delivering food in which you purchase a “share” in our farm and receive a weekly share of the season’s harvest. In the spring, members pay in advance for a share of food to be grown during the upcoming season. Members share in the harvest of a productive season and possibly a not so productive season. CSA Members’ direct investment in sustainable agriculture helps guarantee the presence of Tsedah Farms in the Crystal Lake and the surrounding communities for years to come. Tsedah Farms offers share boxes in multiple sizes and length of time as well as pick-up location and delivery options.
  • WHY AM I HEARING MORE ABOUT C.S.A.’S?
A majority of Americans don’t grow their own food, and so we need to go to a grocery store and/or have it delivered to our homes. Of course, food sometimes travel very far from where it’s grown before it gets to the places where it will be eaten. The delivery of food by way of large trucks not only affects the environment by adding to pollution, but it also affects our health. Produce picked much earlier than at peak freshness contains less vitamins and minerals, and/or has preservatives and chemicals added to maintain freshness. When you buy your food closer to home it is fresher, grown with less chemicals and retains more of its goodness!
  • WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER A CSA?
Do you like cooking at home and trying new veggies? Are veggies just part of your life? You will love our shared box program because you will get to try new things, have variety throughout the season, and have your staples you like on hand. Is trying new things just done sometimes in your kitchen? Do you or people in your home like just the same things most often? If so, you can try our 10-week shared box which you receive every other week. Or, you can shop at the farmer’s markets we attend and just get the things you like. That way, you can still get the basics every other week and slowly add in some new things—or have the experience of going to the market to pick out the few things you enjoy!
  • WHAT IS IN A TYPICAL SHARE BOX?
Included each week will be a variety of greens such as arugula, kales, spring mix, spinach, along with root vegetables such as radishes, onions, beets (orange and red) and turnips. Also, other items such as celery, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes and herbs such as basil, cilantro, dill, parsley and sage. Always keep in mind that the produce offered in a share will change throughout the season. EXAMPLES FOR THE 2024 SEASON: 24-week small share will have 6-8 items 24-week large share will have 10-12 12-week share box (supplied every other week) will have 6-9 items. Our goal is to always be on the generous side as our harvest allows!
  • WHERE DO THE VEGETABLES COME FROM?
We grow our vegetables right here in Crystal Lake. In 2022 we built 88, 30-inch x 25 foot long vegetable beds and filled them with local organic compost. We harvest each week only the amounts we need. We focus on growing the highest quality produce to help our local communities. We use sustainable growing methods to care for the land and the livelihood of farming. We look forward to providing you with the best Non-GMO, heirloom and/or organic and pesticide-free greens and roots.
  • WHAT IF I NEED TO MISS/SKIP A WEEK?
We love our customers and will work with you to make up the missed items in your next week’s box by adding a few extras for you. If you can’t get someone to pick your box or take it from at-home delivery site, please let us know a few days in advance. We will donate your box to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry and then make sure we give you some extras the next week.
  • CAN SOMEONE PICK UP FOR ME IF I CAN’T MAKE IT?
Of course! Just have them give us your name when they come by the market for pick up
  • WHAT DAY WILL I RECEIVE MY HOME DELIVERY?
Delivery dates will most likely be Wednesday. Otherwise, you would pick up at the farmer's markets when they begin or you may pick up at the Farm on Tuesday evenings or Wednesday afternoons.
  • SHOULD I HAVE A COOLER OUTSIDE ON DELIVERY DAY?
We recommend a large cooler with cold packs to keep everything cool.
  • DO I NEED TO BE HOME FOR MY DELIVERY?
Not at all, just leave your cooler in a place we can see it and we’ll do the rest.
